Installing Givi engine guards on my Wee
The Brown Santa delivered another box today...Givi engine guards and an Amoto skidplate...thx, Jim!
I'll write up the skidplate install in another thread. Not much to the kit: two guards, spacers, bolts, washers, etc:
The instructions are fairly weak, but it’s easy to figure out what goes where. The first step is to remove the small
side fairing with a 4mm hex wrench. There’s one bolt, and two rubber mounting points...these just pop out:
Next is to remove four bolts on the sides using a 6mm hex wrench:
Install the engine guard using the mount points from the four bolts you just removed. Install the bolts finger tight for now
being VERY careful to avoid crossthreading the bolts (this is the right side of the bike in case you couldn’t tell!):
I then tightened down the outside two bolts to hold the guard in place. Put a dab of blue Loctite on the other two bolts,
then tighten them down. Once the inner two bolts are in, Loctite the outside bolts, and tighten them down. The right side is now finished..
Repeat the process on the left side, but before the final Loctite/tightening, install the connector in the opening between
the two guards down by the oil cooler. You’ll see the gap there. Loctite and tighten down the four bolts on the left side. There’s
a final 8mm bolt at the connector between the right and left side guards. Use a 6mm hex wrench and tighten it down. Finished!
