I really wasn't planning on jumping that day. I had gone back to PA to see my parents, and figured while I was there, I'd take a drive out to check out Maytown...home of Handsome Dave DeWolf. Dad and I drove the 45 mins or so, and checked in. A load was landing, it was 60 degrees and sunny...perfect December day. Dad and I started talking to a few folks, and watching a load land. Look, a cutaway! I figured that would scare off Dad, but no, I think he was really enjoying himself. One of the instructors talked me in to a jump.I had all of ten jumps, all of them in Colorado. So this would be fun! My first Cessna jump, my first DZ besides home, and my first with an SOS rig. Lots of beer owed!

The plan was to exit with the instructor, back off, dock, and repeat till we were out of altitude. We briefed on emergency procedures, and went to the Cessna mockup to practice exits. I was getting a bit nervous, but not too bad. I really hadn't planned on jumping, but if that was the case, why did I bring my logbook? We finished up and started out to the 182. Much different than the Twin Otter and King Air I had been jumping from. Leaning forward for takeoff was a command I hadn't heard before! The ride up wasn't too bad. One guy got out before us, then it was our turn.

The jump went to hell in a hurry. My exit was terrible, and I don't think Mike and I ever did dock. But too soon, it was pull time, and that huge 288 sq. ft Manta looked nice over my head. The guys had given me a radio, and gave me vectors to the peas. My landing was good, but the pattern was off a bit. Luckily, Maytown is surrounded by farms, so landing off isn't really a big deal. And I wasn't too far off. Hey, it was my eleventh jump, cut me some slack!

I really enjoyed my jump at Maytown. The people are Pennsylvania nice, and I really felt welcome there. Much different than Mile Hi. I love my friends at Mile Hi, but it does lack the friendliness I found at MSPC. If you're in the area, stop by.
