Back in '99, I decided that the original seats in my 40 weren't
the best thing in the world for 4 wheeling. I needed new seats, and quickly.
I started shopping around for some Celica Supra seats. I managed to find
three sets, two were cloth, and one was leather. The leather seats were in
fairly bad shape, so they were out. The two cloth sets were at different
yards. So I bought the set from the yard that I like. These seats are from
an '87 Supra. I like these seats especially since they have the big, adjustable
side bolsters and the drivers seat has an adjustable lumbar support. They were
in great shape, though dirty. Now the trick was to install the seats in my
'64 FJ40 while being able to keep the original seat tracks and toolbox. Here's
what I did...
I drilled holes in the original driver's seat mount to accept the Celica seats,
and bolted them in. Simple! My original seats didn't have belts, so I had to
bolt in some new belts. Simple! The passenger side was a little different
due to the different seat frame. But it was easy to drill some holes and
bolt in the passenger side. Take a look at the pictures. It's not a tough
job at all, and the new(er) seats are much better than the original ones.
